Gene Finlayson
Gene Finlayson is a contemporary abstract artist whose work explores color, movement, healing, and transformation. Working primarily with fluid acrylic techniques, she creates luminous, one-of-a-kind paintings that emerge through a balance of artistic intention and the natural flow of paint.
Following the tragic loss of her daughter and son-in-law to a distracted driver, Gene turned to painting as a way to navigate grief and find a path forward through creativity. What began as a deeply personal form of expression evolved into a powerful artistic practice centered on resilience, hope, and renewal.
Her paintings are characterized by flowing color, organic cellular formations, and dynamic movement that invite viewers to discover their own meanings and emotional connections. Rather than depicting specific subjects, her work creates space for reflection, imagination, and personal interpretation. Each piece becomes a visual conversation between loss and healing, uncertainty and beauty, chaos and peace.
For Gene, the creative process is both an act of exploration and restoration. Through color, texture, and movement, she transforms emotion into art that speaks to the universal human experiences of love, remembrance, perseverance, and hope.
Art is woven into Gene Finlayson's family history. She is the mother of two accomplished artists: the late Misty Wilson whose artistic talent left a lasting impact on those who knew her work, and William Finlayson, a successful artist who continues to create and inspire today. Gene's own artistic journey is both a continuation of that creative legacy and a deeply personal expression of love, loss, healing, and renewal.
Her artwork resonates with collectors who are drawn to contemporary abstract art that is both visually compelling and emotionally authentic.
Artist Statement
“Painting became a place where I could process grief, find moments of peace, and discover beauty even in life’s most difficult seasons. I am fascinated by the way color and movement can express emotions that words often cannot. My hope is that each painting invites viewers to slow down, reflect, and find their own meaning within the work.”
